Fort Collins, Colorado, United States
Whetstone Climbing opened at the south end of Fort Collins in early 2019 and bills itself as Northern Colorado's largest climbing gym, with over 23,000 sq ft of climbing and fitness. There are more than 130 top-rope routes, dedicated lead lines, five auto-belays for climbing solo and more than 150 boulder problems, plus a kids' bouldering area. The gym posts short 'Unlock the Beta' videos of new problems, linked from QR codes on the tags.
Training walls include a Kilter Board, a MoonBoard, a Tension Board and a campus board, with hangboards and speed climbing too. The 2,000 sq ft fitness room has racks, kettlebells and cardio machines, and instructors from Old Town Yoga teach around 15 classes a week in the gym's own yoga studio, free for members. There are also fitness classes, personal trainers and climbing coaching.
The Bivy is the gym's café and bar: free coffee in the morning, then beer, wine and seltzer on weekday evenings (once you have a drink, your climbing is done for the day). There are locker rooms with showers, a gear shop and space to work. The gym runs women's, Pride and Cruxing in Color meet-ups, bouldering and rope leagues, and the Battleship Bounty, a yearly bouldering competition whose open category has a $14,000 prize purse.
Newcomers can book an Intro to Climbing class, free for members. Kids have free trial Fridays, four-week Prep School courses, weekly climbing clubs, the competitive Team Whetstone and holiday camps.

“The facility and staff are top notch. … The insctructors are amazing, so nurturing. My daughter's confidence soared. Definitely the best climbing gym in the region.”
“…the gym itself is incredibly nice and the staff are amazingly friendly. I love the wall architecture, but the route setting is not my favorite compared to other gyms in the front range.”
“Great experience so far! We signed up for a discounted summer pass and love the space, the employees, and the whole vibe at Whetstone.”
