Chinchilla, Queensland, Australia
The Chinchilla Botanic Parkland Bouldering Wall is a free outdoor bouldering structure in the Chinchilla Botanic Parkland, the 4.2-hectare park between Canaga and Wambo Streets that Western Downs Regional Council opened in June 2019, co-funded by the Queensland Government. It stands in the park's play area, under purple and green shade sails between the nature-play logs and the watermelon-themed water park, a short walk from the public toilets.
It's a faceted arch from Bouldering Australia, which builds these structures as public climbing for all ages and abilities. Its grey, navy, yellow and orange panels are studded with climbing holds and larger volumes, so you can work your way up the angled faces, traverse along the arch or link moves from one side to the other. Bark softfall covers the ground around it. There's no rope or booking: it's low bouldering, suited to short problems and playful sessions for kids and adults alike.
As we last found them. Prices change, so check the wall's website before you go.
- No booking or entry fee: it's in a public council park
- Nothing to hire on site
