About Boulder Lab Brunswick

Boulder Lab Brunswick is a bouldering-only gym at 260-266 Barkly Street in Brunswick, in Melbourne's inner north. It is one of Boulder Lab's gyms, alongside Ferntree Gully and Clayton South, with a fourth due to open in Heidelberg in early 2027. Memberships and 10-visit passes work at every Boulder Lab gym.

The climbing

Walltopia built the walls, which were completed in 2022: about 865 square metres of climbing surface in a wide range of angles and movement styles. Problems are reset twice a week, around a dozen at a time, and the gym hosted the first round of Boulder Lab's 2026 Challenger Series competitions.

Facilities and sessions

  • A weights gym with cardio equipment upstairs, for over-16s
  • Women's Night every Tuesday from 7.30pm, with coached technique tips and free shoe and chalk hire
  • Low-sensory mornings on Thursdays from 9am to 11am, with no music and natural light only
  • Youth Squad and Development Squad training on Monday and Wednesday evenings in school term
  • Private coaching for one to three people
  • A shop with the group's best-selling shoes, chalk and accessories

Climbers must be 12 or over, and 12 and 13 year olds need a parent supervising them. First-timers watch a safety video, sign a waiver and are inducted on arrival, with the last induction an hour before closing. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead, off the mats.

- 6-month contract: $29.50 a week; 12-month contract: $27.50 a week (each plus the $39 joining fee; early exit fees apply)

- Members climb at every Boulder Lab gym and get a free guest pass each month, 10% off the gear store, 40% off gear hire and member prices for classes and events

    A safety induction for first-time climbers covering falling, downclimbing and climbing around others. Sign the waiver and watch the safety video online beforehand, and arrive at least an hour before closing.

    Women's Night

    Free with entry

    A weekly session for women and non-binary climbers led by the women's night coaches: about 45 minutes on a technique or skill, then 45 minutes of projecting and climbing together. First-timers are welcome and no booking is needed.
