Sandnes kommune runs a dedicated climbing room in Bogafjellhallen, its sports hall at Bogafjell in Sandnes. There are nine roped lines up to 7.5 m high, plus a bouldering area whose cave and overhangs also cater for more experienced climbers. The municipality's rules cover both top-roping, which must run through two karabiners, and lead climbing, clipping every quickdraw.

Booking

The wall is free to use, but you book a slot in advance through the municipality's booking system, Aktiv kommune, where free times are accepted automatically. The climbing room is staffed by a hall attendant from 16:30 to 21:30 on weekdays and from 10:30 to 17:30 at weekends. Some times are set aside every week, such as Thursday evenings for the municipality's adapted-leisure service, so check the calendar before you book. Climbing shoes and harnesses for children aged 5 to 12 can be hired and paid for by Vipps.

Rules

The wall follows the Norwegian Climbing Federation's Brattkort scheme. Roped climbers need a Brattkort or must climb with an adult who has one, and each adult card holder can bring one person without the card. Belayers must be at least 13 and hold a Brattkort, under-18s without one need a parent's or guardian's permission, and children under 13 must be supervised by an adult at all times, even when only bouldering. Indoor or climbing shoes are required, and loose chalk isn't allowed, though chalk balls are.
