About

Climbing at West Wight Sports Centre

Wight Climbing is the climbing wall in the sports hall of West Wight Sports & Community Centre, a community-run charity centre in Freshwater that also has a swimming pool, gym and café. The centre describes it as the only indoor climbing wall on the Isle of Wight.

The purpose-built wall has seven roped lines between 6 and 7 metres high, with routes from complete beginner level upwards, plus a separate traversing wall. The climbs are changed regularly, roughly once a month.

Ways to climb

  • Instructor-led sessions for children and adults, including half-term sessions for ages 7 to 12
  • Private tuition for one to six people
  • Independent wall hire for competent climbers, with equipment included
  • Group bookings for families, schools, youth groups and community organisations

Before you go

Every session has to be booked in advance by phone or at reception. All climbers sign a waiver (parents or guardians sign for under-18s), and adults climbing unsupervised need the adult waiver. Bring clean shoes to keep the wall clean.
