Bouldering in Murrieta

VITAL Climbing Gym Murrieta is the Riverside County branch of VITAL, the bouldering chain founded in 2010 that also runs gyms in Oceanside, Carlsbad, Bellingham and New York. There are no ropes: the walls stand over padded flooring, with a top-out boulder and an angled wall among the sections the setters reset in turn. Members can climb 24 hours a day, and day visitors are welcome while the gym is staffed.

Facilities

  • Training: a campus board and hangboards including the Beastmaker 1000 and 2000, Trango Rock Prodigy, So iLL Wood Palm and Tension Whetstone.
  • Fitness: kettlebells, dumbbells, gymnastic rings, bikes and rowing machines.
  • Café: a self-serve café with snacks, drinks and seating where you can hang out or work.
  • Rental: climbing shoes, chalk bags and yoga mats.

Visiting and youth teams

The gym is staffed from 11:30 to 20:00 every day. Climbing shoes are required on the walls, and children must be at least five, with chaperone ratios that depend on age. Murrieta runs a recreational/intermediate youth team and a competitive team for ages 10 to 18, with trial practices by appointment, and well-behaved dogs may be allowed with staff approval. Yoga, aerial and beginner clinics run at VITAL Oceanside, and a Murrieta membership also gives access to the other VITAL gyms.
