Epic Climbing Gym

A climbing gym inside the Mountain Shop

Epic Climbing Gym is the indoor wall at the Estes Park Mountain Shop, the town's largest outdoor-gear and rental store, on Big Thompson Avenue (Highway 34), about a mile from downtown Estes Park, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.The shop describes more than 4,500 sq ft of climbing terrain, with roped walls, about 125 linear feet of bouldering and two training tools: a MoonBoard and a Treadwall M6 rotating wall. Routes are changed often and set for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

Passes and first visits

• Open: every day from 8am to 8pm, all year round.
• Passes: day passes, a cheaper bouldering-only pass, 5- and 10-visit punch cards, and memberships from one month to a year for individuals and families.
• New climbers: "3 climbs for $30", with staff doing the belaying (usually 10am to 4pm, best booked by phone), or an introduction class for ages 14 and up covering equipment, knots, belaying and gym safety, with a day pass and rental gear included.
• Hire: shoes, harnesses, belay devices and chalk bags.

Groups, kids and guided trips

The gym takes small and large groups, birthday parties and corporate team-building sessions, and runs an after-school climbing programme for children in the autumn. The shop sells climbing gear and books guided outdoor climbing with KMAC, whose trips meet and finish at the shop.
