About

Bouldering in Bendigo

The Hold is Bendigo's bouldering gym, in a converted shed on Hattam Street in Golden Gully, a few minutes from the city centre. Two locals who work in healthcare built it, with walls by Walltopia over padded flooring, and it held its grand opening, with a competition, in February 2026.

The walls, up to 4 m high, take in slab, a free-standing island, a cave and a steep overhang. Problems are graded in six colours from yellow (V0–V1) to black (V8–V9), plus purple Joker problems left to the setters' whim, and sections are reset regularly, usually on Fridays. Two auto-belays, free with entry, let you try climbing higher on a rope.

Facilities

  • An upstairs training area with a MoonBoard, weights and cable machines
  • A café and lounge bar serving Market Lane coffee, toasties, beer and wine, with couches inside and tables outside
  • Shoe, chalk and harness hire, and crash mats to hire or buy for climbing outdoors
  • A shop selling climbing gear, and showers
  • Free on-site parking, including accessible spaces, and bike racks
  • Dogs are welcome on a lead, kept off the mats

Classes and groups

Coached classes run in school terms: Little Dynos for children aged 5 to 12 and the Climbing Academy for 12 to 17-year-olds, with entry and shoe hire included. Children aged 5 to 12 need close adult supervision whenever they climb, and supervising adults who don't climb get in free. The gym also hosts birthday parties, school groups and team days for up to 50 people.
