Istanbul, Turkey
Tenis Eskrim Dağcılık Spor Kulübü, better known as TED, grew out of a mountaineering, hiking and winter sports club founded in Istanbul in 1933 and took its current name in 1936. The club moved to its grounds in Tarabya, in the Sarıyer district, in the early 1990s, and today it has two climbing walls there alongside its tennis courts, fitness centre, sauna and members' pool.
Both walls are used for the club's summer and winter schools, team training and members' own sessions. Courses and team training are run under the supervision of national-level and professional climbing coaches, and the club has hosted a number of national climbing competitions.
TED is a private club rather than a public climbing gym, and no day passes are advertised. The walls are open to members and their guests on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 17:00 to 22:00. Climbers can become members of the wall by paying monthly dues, and members can bring guests for an hourly guest fee. The club also runs climbing courses and further training for adults. Fees aren't published, so phone or email the club to ask about membership and courses.
