The climbing wall in Steinkjerhallen, the sports hall by Elvenget in Steinkjer, opened in June 2017. Steinkjerhallen AS, owned by Steinkjer municipality and Trøndelag county, runs the wall and sells the tickets, while Steinkjer Klatreklubb runs courses and a club night there.
The 11 m wall has routes at a range of grades and five auto-belays, so you can climb without a partner. A Kilter Board with an adjustable angle arrived in 2025. The club's bouldering room, opened in 2014 in a storeroom at the far end of the gym hall, has about 70 m² of 3 m walls over full-floor matting.
Book your climbing in Steinkjerhallen's BookUp booking system, and fill in a liability form before you climb. Roped climbing needs a Brattkort or top-rope card (topptaukort), or a partner who holds one, while bouldering and the Kilter Board need no certificate. Without a Brattkort you can still use the auto-belays after the hall's self-belay course (NOK 250). Harnesses, shoes, belay devices and ropes can be hired. Weekend hours can change around events and handball matches, and if the main entrance is closed, call the hall to be let in.
Steinkjer Klatreklubb holds club climbing for members of all ages on Wednesdays 18:00–20:00, when climbers pay their own entry, and runs top-rope and Brattkort courses in Steinkjer from age 13. Membership costs NOK 100 a year and cuts the adult monthly subscription from NOK 450 to NOK 350.
