Sørlandet Klatresenter, on Odderøya in Kristiansand, bills itself as the largest climbing centre in southern Norway. It caters for all levels and ages, from first-timers and children to experienced climbers.
Everyone, children included, must read the safety rules and sign a waiver before their first visit. Auto-belay users get a short introduction first, and instructors are on hand in the hall. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult outside organised activities.
Roped climbing with a partner requires a Topptaukort or Brattkort, the Norwegian belay certificates. The centre's three-hour top-rope course (age 15 and over) includes a free top-rope test on another day, taken on a drop-in basis on weekdays between 17:00 and 21:00, and a lead course follows on from it.
Routes and boulders are listed in the Vertical-Life app, and companies can book team-building sessions and a meeting room for 10–12 people.
