Skudeneshavn, Rogaland, Norway
The climbing wall in Skudehallen, the multi-use sports hall owned by Karmøy municipality in Skudeneshavn, is run by the climbing team (klatrelaget) of Skudenes Ungdoms- og Idrettslag (SUIL). The roped wall has six auto-belays and has recently been reset with new routes, and there's an adjoining bouldering wall and a MoonBoard, which you can use without a course or a top-rope card. In spring and summer the club also climbs outdoors at Fredtun when the weather allows.
Anyone can try climbing at the open session on Wednesday evenings, when the wall wardens give newcomers instruction. It costs NOK 50 a time, paid by Vipps, and is free for club members; climbing shoes and harnesses in all sizes are lent free. Everyone registers before climbing, and children under 13 must come with an adult. There's room for ten people at a time who aren't members or don't hold a top-rope card, so talk to the warden when you arrive.
Anyone who belays needs at least a Brattkort top-rope card, the Norwegian belay certificate, or a course, and the club arranges courses on request. Members of the climbing team also climb on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings. Membership of SUIL costs NOK 300 a year, plus the climbing team's training fee of NOK 500 a year from age 13 (NOK 200 up to age 12).
As we last found them. Prices change, so check the wall's website before you go.
