Keremeos, British Columbia, Canada
The Similkameen Recreation Centre on 9th Street in Keremeos, run by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), has a two-level gym, five-pin bowling, squash and racquetball courts and an indoor climbing wall. The wall has four faces and is for roped, belayed climbing only, with no bouldering. It was refreshed in 2023.
Most climbing here is through the centre's club for experienced belay climbers. To join, you pass a $10 belay exam at the centre, which covers climbing calls, the brake-under-slide belay method, putting on a harness, tying a figure-eight knot and three test climbs. You then complete a waiver and agree to the wall rules. Club members can climb from 05:00 to 23:00, seven days a week, with a gym pass or by paying the drop-in fee each visit.
The RDOS runs public drop-in sessions when it can, and the wall can be booked for private rentals, subject to availability. Contact the centre to ask about upcoming sessions.
