Selbu, Trøndelag, Norway
Selbu Klatreklubb's climbing hall is in B. Langseth Arena, the multi-use hall with an indoor football pitch in Selbu. Club volunteers built and painted the wall, and the club says it is meant for beginners and experienced climbers alike, without a competitive atmosphere.
There is a roped wall and a bouldering wall, both re-set in summer 2024 by a leading Norwegian route-setter, and two auto-belays bought in 2020. The club's grading guide describes rope routes from about 3+ to 8+ on the Norwegian scale, while boulder problems are marked with tape in seven colours, from orange (easiest) through yellow, green, blue, red and black to white.
The hall is open on Thursdays 17:00–20:00 and Sundays 14:00–17:00, when non-members can drop in. Members with a monthly or annual card get their own key fob and can come and go at other times, as long as the hall isn't booked, so check the club's calendar first. Climbers with a Brattkort can also contact the club to have the hall unlocked. To belay on top-rope you need at least a top-rope card (topptaukort), and a Brattkort to belay on lead; the club runs both courses and belay tests, which cost less for members.
Outside opening hours the hall can be rented for NOK 1,000 an hour, including equipment and an instructor for the first hour. Children's birthday parties cost NOK 2,000 for two hours with two instructors, and instructors can be hired for technique courses or a first introduction to climbing.
As we last found them. Prices change, so check the wall's website before you go.
