Rise Climbing is an independent bouldering gym, training centre and café in Caxton Works on Hoy Street, Canning Town, about seven minutes' walk from Canning Town station (Jubilee line and DLR). The climbing is spread over two floors: the ground floor holds around 60% of the walls along with reception, the café, toilets, a shower, changing rooms and lockers, and has step-free access; the upper floor and gym are reached by stairs.
There's a traverse wall for warming up and full-height bouldering walls with new problems set every week.
No booking is needed, and shoes and chalk can be hired at reception. Entry is cheaper off-peak and before 10:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, students pay £7.50 on Fridays, and there's a pay-what-you-can scheme. Free monthly improvers sessions and socials (chess, life drawing, mahjong and more) come with entry, and the bar opens from 17:00 on weekdays and 12:00 at weekends.
Children from three can climb with a supervising adult, with family intros at weekends, termly youth lessons for ages 7 to 16 and birthday parties. Parking nearby is restricted during the day, but there's cycle parking outside.

“The instructor was so friendly and helpful.. the levels layout seems clear. The introductory session was fast and complete, they give u the shoes+chalk”
“It has a good number of routes for both beginners and intermediates, and, impressively, they offer free classes and workshops to help you improve”
“The one major caveat is the size. It's a small gym, and during my typically long sessions (6-8 hours), I managed to get through most of the routes.”
