Joondalup, Western Australia, Australia
Portside Boulders opened its fourth gym in Joondalup in May 2025, serving Perth's northern suburbs. It was the first gym built entirely in-house by the group's sister company Stax Climbing, which made every volume in its Perth warehouse, and its design takes its cue from European gyms, with an earthy, Japandi look of plywood walls, natural textures and track lighting. It is a 12-minute walk from the train station, close to Edith Cowan University and Lakeside Joondalup.
The bouldering is spread over four areas, Oyster, South Shore, North Shore and Headland, with overhangs, vertical walls and slabs above thick matting, and each Portside keeps more than 100 problems up at a time. Climbs carry coloured tags that run from pink, the easiest, through white, yellow, blue, red and green to black, plus mystery tags and climbs set for kids. Walls are reset on Tuesdays, when some areas can be closed.
Pebbles introduces children aged four to eight to bouldering on Saturday mornings, and the Youth Club and Youth Club+ run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in term time, with holiday classes in the school breaks. Climb Like a Girl, a women's climbing night, comes to Joondalup on the second Thursday of the month, and the gym hosted the finals of the 2026 Winter Boulder League. Entry is $25 with no time limit, and memberships cover all four Portside gyms.

“Only recently I started climbing here and it is one of the best places I have climbed at in Perth. The staff are always extremely friendly.”
“Great place to start bouldering or to continue progressing. Gets a bit hot in there though, and the water fountains aren't super cold either.”
“A new beautiful addition to the other port sides gym. New inclinations and new training facilities.”
