Penrith Leisure Centre on Southend Road, a short walk from Penrith station, is run by Better and has a roped climbing wall alongside its pool, gym, sports hall and indoor bowls hall. The wall is 8 metres high, with lead walls (one overhanging by 1.5 metres), a section with an overhanging prow, top ropes and four auto-belays, all above safety matting.
The centre runs junior climbing courses for children aged five and up, with all equipment provided: they just need comfortable sportswear and trainers or climbing shoes.
There's a café and bar in the atrium, accessible changing and toilets, and free parking for customers of the centre.
