Mount Palace is a small community climbing wall on the lower floor of the National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace. Climbing has been part of the site since 1991, and the current wall dates from 2010. It is run as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company by local climbers, who keep prices low and work with local charities and groups to bring in people who might otherwise not climb. All the instructors hold Mountain Training roped climbing qualifications.
Drop-in sessions need no booking: register online, then show your membership profile at the sports centre reception. Shoe, chalk and roped equipment hire are free, and non-climbing supervisors go free too. There are two-hour adult roped climbing workshops, term-time courses for under-18s, and crash pads to hire for trips to the sandstone. Showers, changing rooms and lockers are in the sports centre, and there are free car parks nearby. The wall says to navigate to Ledrington Road, SE19 2GA, rather than the sports centre's map pin.
