Climbing plus ninja and fitness

Monkey Factory occupies the climbing hall on Wienerfeldstraße in Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel that was previously Nordwandklettern, and adds a ninja course, a functional-fitness gym and a new trampoline hall. Climbing is still the biggest part: 900 m² of rope walls on panels and rock imitations, with more than 200 routes from grade 3 to 8a, including chimney and crack climbing, 75 rope lines and about 25 top-rope stations. The 240 m² bouldering area has a large cave and single-colour problems graded easy, medium and hard. Outside, a shaded, north-facing 133 m² wall has about 25 routes from 5b to 7c on ten lines, next to a low ropes course and a slackline.

Before you climb

Experienced climbers sign the registration form and waiver, then buy a day ticket or a membership; you may only use the kinds of climbing you're registered for, and a partner check is required before every climb. Newcomers can boulder straight away but must take a course before rope climbing, and are lent nothing but shoes. Ropes must be at least 30 metres long, and only chalk balls or liquid chalk are allowed. Under-14s need an adult with them (one adult for up to two children), 14- to 17-year-olds need a parent's signature given on site, and under-6s may only use the ninja kids' area.

There are taster sessions, beginner courses for adults and children, family courses, lead and top-rope training groups and one-to-one coaching. The Monkey Bar sells coffee, cold drinks, snacks and merchandise.
