Hamar, Innlandet, Norway
Mjøsa Klatresenter is a climbing centre on the shore of Lake Mjøsa in Hamar, opened in 2024. It has staffed opening hours every day, and climbers can drop in, buy a visit card or take out a monthly subscription. The cheaper club rate on the subscription is for members of Hedemarken Klatreklubb.
Check in at reception and sign the liability declaration before you climb. Top-roping needs no experience, but your belayer must hold a Brattkort or Topptaukort, the Norwegian belay certificates; for lead climbing both climber and belayer need a Brattkort, and you bring or hire your own rope. Only assisted belay devices are allowed, so standard tube devices can't be used. Harnesses, shoes, ropes and belay devices can be hired.
The centre runs four-hour top-rope and lead courses, ten-week training groups for children and teenagers, and children's birthday parties. Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult on the auto-belays, and the bouldering room isn't a play area. Climbing barefoot or without a top isn't allowed.
