About

Climbing and fitness in Arlon

L'Escale, on Avenue de Mersch in Arlon, puts a rope hall, a bouldering hall, a training room and a fitness centre under one roof. The CAB club Escal'Pades is based here and runs the hall's group courses.

The walls

  • Ropes: about 1,000 m² of climbing up to 17 metres high, from slabs and technical vertical walls to big overhangs, graded from 3 to 8b/c. Most lines have top ropes in place; the steepest section is lead only, with your own rope of at least 40 metres. The rope hall has a cushioned safety floor.
  • Bouldering: about 650 m² of problems for every level.
  • Training room: boards at various angles with wooden holds and circuits, hangboards and a Güllich campus board.
  • Fresh setting: around 200 new routes and 400 new boulders a year.
  • Fitness: a large gym with cardio and weight machines and free weights, included with every climbing entry, plus indoor cycling classes.

Climbing here

The hall is open to everyone and no certificate is needed: if you've never climbed, ask at reception for a free introduction to safety, on weekdays from 16:00 or at weekends. An entry lasts as long as you like during opening hours, and children under 14 must climb with an adult. Harnesses, shoes, belay devices, Grigris and ropes can be hired, and there's a climbing shop and a bar; on weekdays the bar and introductions start at 16:00, except on Wednesday afternoons and in the Belgian school holidays. Group courses run through Escal'Pades, with camps for children in the summer and private lessons on request.
