Aschau im Zillertal, Tyrol, Austria
Kraftreich Aufenfeld, at the Aufenfeld in Aschau im Zillertal, is a leisure centre built around the former Kletterzentrum Zillertal. Its climbing hall has more than 1,000 m² of roped walls up to 16 metres high, with over 100 routes from 4a to 9a and top ropes already hung. Thirteen auto-belays let you climb without a partner: six on full-height routes and seven with routes set for children. The bouldering hall has more than 600 m² of walls 4 to 4.5 metres high over continuous soft matting, with over 100 colour-coded problems and a bouldering cave. A training area for over-14s has a Kilter Board adjustable to 70 degrees, a 45-degree spray wall with an app, a campus board, hangboards and weights, and small children have their own bouldering room with slides.
The centre is open every day of the year from 09:00 to 23:00, and from 07:30 on Tuesdays. Anyone can use the auto-belays after a short briefing, but roped climbers and their partners must be able to belay without fault, and top-roping requires a top-rope certificate (Topropeschein), which you can get on one of the centre's courses. Under-14s must be supervised by an adult throughout, and 14- to 17-year-olds need a parent to sign the terms of use on site. Everything from shoes to ropes and belay devices can be hired, as can crash pads for bouldering outdoors, and a shop in the hall sells climbing gear. Courses range from taster sessions and top-rope and lead courses to weekly training for children from four and parent-and-child climbing. The Kraftreich also has a 250 m² fitness studio, yoga and fitness classes, physiotherapy and a café-restaurant, and outside are playgrounds, go-karts and a bathing lake.

“16m high walls with nice overhangs, a dedicated boulder area, and a training space with a Kilter board, a spray wall, finger boards, etc. serve even the most ambious climbers.”
“Great climbing and bouldering hall, well kept, long routes, good variety. It can get crowdy and loud in high season because it is inside a camping area and tourists like to try.”
