Ellmau, Tyrol, Austria
The climbing hall at the Kaiserbad, Ellmau's leisure pool at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser, has 805 m² of walls up to 16 metres high on a floor area of 173 m². Its roughly 100 routes are graded from 3 to 10 on the UIAA scale, and 35 lines can be climbed at once. Two auto-belays let you climb without a partner, and there's a small bouldering and warm-up area. The Kaiserbad also has indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna area, indoor tennis courts and a restaurant.
From 20 December the hall opens every day from 10:00 to 22:00. Before then it opens from 12:00 to 21:00 until 8 November, only by reservation from 9 November to 4 December, when the pool and sauna are closed, and from 12:00 to 22:00 from 5 December. Everyone registers before climbing for the first time, confirming that they can tie in with a figure-eight or double bowline, handle a belay device, belay on top rope and lead and do a partner check before every climb; anyone who can't may only climb with a partner who can show them and supervise them. The staff don't supervise climbers, and children may climb without a parent present only with a parent's signed consent. Day tickets can also be bought online, and ropes, shoes, harnesses, belay devices and lead sets can be hired. The Wilder Kaiser tourist board lists climbing courses and the region's mountain guides.
