Ehrwald, Tyrol, Austria
Kletterhalle Ehrwald opened in December 2014, built as part of the renovation of Ehrwald's tennis hall, and is run by the Freizeitbetriebe Tiroler Zugspitze, which also runs the village's ice rink and indoor pool. It has about 1,300 m² of climbing on walls up to 16 metres high, with top-rope and lead routes, four auto-belays, and a bouldering area with problems from children's and beginners' level up to 8a. The training area has a campus board and a 40° Tension Board with wooden holds, whose free app offers about 14,000 problems from 5b to 8c+. The hall is built to competition standard, there's a chill-out lounge, and the WALL restaurant is next door. The hall is step-free, with an accessible toilet.
The hall is open on weekday evenings from 16:00 to 22:00 and from 13:00 to 21:00 at weekends and on public holidays, with last entry an hour before closing. Staff don't teach belaying, so learn it on a course first. The auto-belays may only be used after a staff introduction, which must be booked a day ahead (€5). Under-14s must be supervised by an adult, and 14- to 17-year-olds need a parent's consent form to climb alone. Courses include top-rope, lead and fall-training courses, family courses with an instructor and a children's course from October 2026, and there are children's birthday parties. Ropes, shoes, harnesses and belay devices can be hired, and holders of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena AktivPass climb free.

“The wall is amazing. My only suggestion will be to have more auto belays. The view to the mountains is unbelievable.”
