Schwanenstadt, Upper Austria, Austria
The Alpenverein's Schwanenstadt section has its own climbing facilities in its clubhouse, the Alpenvereinshaus at Staig. The lead wall has about 69 m² of climbing up to 7.2 metres high, around two-thirds vertical and the rest overhanging, with about 40 routes from grade III+ to VIII (most between V and VII-), reset regularly. Top-roping is the usual way to climb, and the quickdraws are fixed, so you don't need your own for leading. A 45 m² bouldering room has been in use since 2002, and climbing without a rope is allowed up to 2.5 metres above the mats.
The section's climbers meet for climbing and bouldering on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 19:00 to 21:00. Young people and adults, beginners and experienced climbers are welcome, members learn to belay there, and climbing equipment can be borrowed. Non-members can come to three taster sessions; after that you need to join the Alpenverein. A harness is compulsory on the lead wall, and everyone climbs at their own risk. The section's youth team runs children's climbing on Friday evenings and holds competitions at the wall, most recently a top-rope competition in April 2026, and the section offers climbing courses.
