IndiRock is an independent, family-run bouldering centre on the first-floor walkway of the Victoria Shopping Centre, at the top of Southend high street and connected to Southend Victoria station. Local couple Gordon and Emily founded it in 2019 with help from a Crowdfunder, and after pandemic delays it opened in March 2022. It aims to make bouldering inclusive, help revive the city centre and support local young people into work.
No booking is needed. First-timers register online, watch the induction video and pay a £3 registration fee, and there are free 15-minute tasters at 11:45 on Saturdays and Sundays. New customers can buy a two-week intro pass, and low-income climbers get half-price entry and shoe hire.
The weekly Ready to Rock class suits beginners, and there are monthly workshops, private coaching, youth coaching and squads, an Adult Coaching Membership, parties and school sessions. The IndiBlock Stars competition runs every winter from December to March.
