Hovden grendehus is Bykle municipality's community house in the mountain resort of Hovden, with a library, a sports hall, a cinema and a small climbing room. The room holds a Kilter Board, an LED training wall 4.5 by 3.5 metres that can be tilted to 45 degrees. It was installed in spring 2022.
You pick a problem in the Kilter Board app on your phone, or on the iPad kept in the room, and its holds light up. Because you choose the grade, the board suits beginners as well as strong climbers. Only one person climbs at a time, so it works best for a small group taking turns.
The board is free for people who live in Bykle municipality. Everyone else pays NOK 110 an hour, or NOK 350 an hour for groups of more than four. You can book online through the municipality's booking system, by email or phone, or at the reception when you arrive.
The house is staffed Monday to Thursday 08:00–21:00 and Friday 08:00–16:00, with shorter hours (09:00–16:00) in holiday weeks such as the autumn and winter school holidays. It's closed at weekends, on public holidays and for the summer holiday (weeks 27–31). Weekend sessions must be booked well ahead, because the key has to be collected from the reception during opening hours.
The board is meant for young people from the eighth school year upwards; younger children must be with a responsible adult. There is no weight limit.
