Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Hive Vancouver Boulder, at 520 Industrial Avenue, is the first gym of The Hive, which now also runs bouldering gyms in North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Surrey and Winnipeg, and Hive Heights, its roped gym a short walk along the street at number 670. The Hive calls it its compact Vancouver bouldering location.
Problems are graded in Hive hex grades, from 1 hex (about VB to V0) to 7 hex (V10 and harder), and the setting team refreshes them weekly. Bumble Bee tags mark climbs suited to children. Alongside the bouldering there's a Moon Board, campus boards and hangboards, a fitness and training area on the mezzanine, and a kid-friendly area that doubles as the teaching space for courses, birthday parties and youth programmes.
There are gendered and private gender-neutral changing rooms with showers and towels, cubbies and lockers (bring a lock or buy one), and a shop selling climbing shoes, gear, guidebooks and clothing, plus protein bars, snacks and bottled drinks. There's a car park, limited street parking and bike racks.
Booking is required at peak times: weekdays 17:00 to 21:00 and weekends 10:00 to 16:30. An early-morning pass gives cheaper entry from opening until 11:00 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

“Decently sized bouldering gym with lots of climbs. The walls are very smooth, not textured so you can't smear the wall, and holds feels a little worn so it's hard to grip…”
“Friendly staff, fun light hearted environment, no one is judging, everyone is positive with good vibes. New climbs are made weekly. Good air ventilations. Wonderful classes to help progress.”
“Even if the gym is quite dark, due to the lack of windows, the atmosphere here is very warm and welcoming… The route setting is nice and change quite regularly.”
