Hammerfest Klatreklubb's climbing hall is in Vår Energi Arena on Prærien, which opened in 2022, when the club moved up from its old wall in Isbjørnhallen. The main rope wall is a 15 m competition wall with a moderate overhang, alongside 15 m vertical walls and a 15 m slab. Up on the mezzanine, the 10 m "little wall" has easier routes for children and courses, and there are two auto-belays. Bouldering is on the ground floor, under the mezzanine and along the slab.
You don't need to be a club member: register in the Boost app and pay for a drop-in, a visit card or a monthly fee, and the app opens the door between 06:00 and 23:00 every day. Go in through the arena's main door and take the second door on the right. A duty attendant (klatrevakt) is there on Thursday evenings from 18:00 to 21:00 for rope climbing together, and equipment can only be borrowed then.
To climb on the rope walls you need an NKF Brattkort or must climb with someone who has one. You can use the auto-belays without a Brattkort, but a card-holder must check you before you start. Bouldering needs only registration and a paid fee. Children under 13 must always be with an adult, except at organised club sessions.
The club runs children's climbing on Wednesdays and youth climbing, and offers a 10-hour beginners' course that prepares you for the Brattkort (NOK 1,500, students NOK 1,000; age 13 and over), though none is scheduled at the moment. Club members get lower fees, free loan of equipment and 20% off climbing gear at Intersport Hammerfest.
As we last found them. Prices change, so check the wall's website before you go.
