The Georgian Rock Wall is a 30 ft (about 9 m) climbing wall with 25 routes inside the Athletic and Fitness Centre in J Building at Georgian College's Barrie campus. It's run by Georgian Recreation for the college community: full-time students have athletics fees included in their tuition, and part-time students, alumni and employees can buy memberships at the Athletics front desk. The membership page lists no community rate.
The wall is staffed whenever it's open, which during term means weekday afternoons and evenings. Beginners can come along to Try-A-Climb sessions, where staff get you on the wall after you sign a waiver, with no registration or training needed. To climb at other times you need the wall's belay (ropes) certification: a session of roughly 45 to 75 minutes with four places, booked through the college's online store. Once certified, you just check in with staff and climb. Times are posted each term on Georgian Recreation's rock wall page and its Instagram account, @georgianrec.
The air-conditioned centre also has a 9,000 sq ft fitness centre with a cardio area, a 20,000 sq ft gymnasium, a 147 m suspended running track, a studio for group fitness classes, and changing rooms with showers and lockers. Members complete the Get Active Questionnaire before their first visit.
