About

Geilo Klatrehall

Geilo Klatrehall is the indoor climbing and bouldering hall run by Geilo Klatreklubb in Geilohallen, the sports hall at Lienvegen 85 in Geilo. Park at Geilohallen and use the entrance at the back. The club also looks after Skarveredet, a mountain hut near Ustaoset built by the philosopher Arne Næss in 1942.

Climbing

  • Rope: about 550 m² of roped walls with around 100 routes from grade 3+ to 9-, and two auto-belays.
  • Bouldering: a separate bouldering hall of about 400 m².

Visiting

From September to April the hall opens for club sessions: family climbing on Mondays from 17:00 to 18:30, youth climbing on Mondays from 18:30 to 20:00, adult climbing (from age 13) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 21:00, and paraclimbing for all ages on the first Wednesday of the month from 18:00 to 20:00. The club posts changes on its Facebook page. Pay at the hall by card or Vipps; only climbers pay, not belayers, and members under 18 climb free at club sessions. Members with a 3-month, half-year or annual card can let themselves in from 07:00 to 23:00 every day of the year.

To belay you need a Brattkort for lead or top rope, the Norwegian belay certificate. The club runs Brattkort courses, and an auto-belay card is available from the wall attendants. An assisted belay device is compulsory and can be hired, and under-18s need a parent's consent.
