Foyle Arena is Derry City and Strabane District Council's sports centre at St Columb's Park in the Waterside. It opened in April 2015 as a £12 million centre and was billed as a centre of excellence for climbing, judo and wrestling.
The climbing hall is built around a 15-metre competition wall designed for everyone from first-timers to international competitors. It has:
Climbers who want to use the wall on their own are assessed first to show they can belay and climb safely. Sessions are booked through the council's online booking system, and the centre can be phoned on 028 7137 6555 to arrange a first visit or an introductory session.
Besides the climbing wall, the arena has a 25m pool, a fitness suite, sports halls, a floodlit outdoor five-a-side pitch, changing rooms, a café and parking. The opening hours given here are the centre's; climbing sessions may run for shorter hours, so check the timetable before you go.
