Ås, Akershus, Norway
Eika Sportssenter is the sports centre run by SiÅs, the student welfare organisation at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Ås. You don't have to be a student: anyone aged 18 or over can join as an external member, and anyone without a membership can buy a day ticket for the climbing facility. Membership also covers the gym, group classes and the sports halls.
To belay on rope you need a top-rope card (topptaukort) or a Brattkort, the Norwegian belay certificate. SiÅs runs four-hour top-rope and lead courses in Norwegian, and a climbing supervisor (klatrevakt) is on duty on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 17:00 to 20:00, except from mid-June to mid-August, who can also run top-rope and lead tests. Shoes, harnesses and ropes can be hired at reception.
Children can climb with an adult on Tuesdays from 17:00 to 20:00, when the supervisor is on duty, and on Sundays from 10:00 to 13:00 without one; each adult can bring up to two children. Groups can hire the climbing facility, with instructors on request. The climbing facility is open in the centre's staffed hours; members can get into the centre unstaffed from 06:00 to 23:59 every day, but SiÅs lists the climbing facility with the staffed hours.
