East Face is the climbing wall inside Waterlane Leisure Centre on Water Lane in Lowestoft, run by Everyone Active. Built in March 2018, it has 18 lines of rope climbing on a 9-metre (30-foot) wall, eight of them on auto belays, so you can climb without a partner once you're signed off.
Climbers' reviews mention top ropes and lead routes as well as the auto belays, and say the routes are kept updated.
Waterlane is a full leisure centre, with a large gym, 25m pool, sports hall, squash courts, soft play, the Air-X inflatable course, a café and a thermal suite with sauna and steam room, so it suits families where not everyone climbs. Sessions are booked through Everyone Active's online booking or by phone.
“Eastface Climbing Wall was great. The children loved it. The number eight climbing rope was one of the hardest because the markers that you hold onto are placed further apart.”
