Der Steinbock Linz is a bouldering hall on Kapuzinerstraße with about 1,500 m² of floor space indoors. Its walls, up to 4.5 metres high and some with top-outs, are split into eight sectors on two levels holding around 180 problems, from steep roofs to slabs, above 30 cm mats. One sector is reset every week, so about 40 new problems go up each time. Problems are graded on the hall's own scale from 1 for beginners to 8 for experts, and children's problems are marked with the mascot Bocki. The 18 m² Kilter Board, with 431 light-up holds and 207 footholds, tilts hydraulically from vertical to 70 degrees, and staff show you how to use it. From about April to October an outdoor wall adds some 30 problems, floodlit in the evenings.
The children's area has a bouldering wall, a crawl tunnel, a slide and things to swing from, and the training area has hangboards, campus boards, pull-up bars, spheres, free weights and space to stretch. The café serves barista coffee, regional beers, bowls, pizza and tarte flambée, with a sun terrace. You can just turn up and register on site. Under-14s need an adult with them, and 14- to 17-year-olds need a parent's signed consent or an adult. Payment is by card only. Shoes, chalk and crash pads are for hire, the shop sells shoes and kit, and the changing rooms have free showers and lockers for a padlock. Courses include taster sessions, adult courses, parent-and-child and holiday courses, training groups and individual coaching.

“…it's huge and there's so many walls, also they change a wall every single week… If at all possible I would recommend coming before noon on weekdays, as there are barely ANY people”
“Great family friendly place especially on a wet day. Good facilities and well organised.”
