Australia's largest Clip 'n Climb

Clip 'n Climb Berwick bills itself as Australia's largest Clip 'n Climb: an indoor climbing theme park on Intrepid Street in Berwick, in Melbourne's south-east, a short drive from the Monash Freeway. Its arena has more than 30 colourful challenge walls on TruBlue auto-belays, among them a speed-climb race, the inflatable Inflated wall, the Stairway to Heaven and the Astroball, so no belay partner or experience is needed. Climbers range from 3-year-olds to adults, and children under 9 need an adult to clip them on and off.

Around the walls are the SkyTrail, an 11-metre-high indoor high-ropes course of 21 elements with the SkyRail flying fox, two augmented-reality GameWalls, the five-level Cheeky Monkey play zone with a spider tower over 7 metres high, a Leap of Faith and a giant drop slide.

Sessions, prices and programmes

A climbing session costs $24 online and lasts about 70 minutes: harnessing and a safety briefing, then 50 minutes of climbing. 3 to 5-year-olds pay $14, and the SkyTrail costs $24, or $42 combined with a climb. Programmes include Climb Ninjas, an after-school club on Fridays, drop-off school holiday programmes for ages 6 to 16, and MindClimb, therapeutic climbing for neurodiverse children that an occupational therapist oversees and the NDIS can fund.

Café and groups

A large central café serves barista coffee and hot food with a view of the action. The venue also hosts parties, school excursions of up to 250 students, scout and guide nights and corporate events in its function rooms, with bus parking by the front door.

    An after-school climbing club in which instructors teach techniques, games and tricks on the walls and augmented-reality climbing technology, in a supportive, non-competitive group. Call the centre to join.

    Mondays to Thursdays at 16:30 or 18:00 in term time; some Sunday afternoons1.5 hours a week

    Closely supervised weekly climbing sessions for neurodiverse children and young people, for example with ASD or ADHD, overseen by an occupational therapist and suitable for NDIS funding. Exercises on the walls and SkyTrail are tailored to each participant to build coordination, confidence and emotional regulation; a casual session can be booked first.

    A supervised drop-off day in the school holidays: climbing challenges, the SkyTrail and flying fox, Leap of Faith, drop slides, GameWalls and spider-tower games, with a Nerf battle, pizza making and other activities adapted to age and ability. Earlier or later pick-up can be arranged.
