Herzogenburg, Lower Austria, Austria
Boulderhalle Kraftwerk is the bouldering hall of the Naturfreunde Herzogenburg, run by volunteers and tucked away in a courtyard on Wiener Straße. What began as a small bouldering room now spreads over several rooms: the first is mainly for children and beginners, the second and third for more experienced climbers, and there's a kids' wall, a 2019 Masters MoonBoard, a 40-degree spray wall with its own app and a "Creative Lab" for comp-style movement. Boulders are set in single colours, from very easy to properly hard, and new problems go up every six weeks. A campus board, pull-up bar and peg board complete the training kit.
You don't need to be a Naturfreunde member to climb: pay at the desk by card or cash, and hire shoes if you need them. Members pay less. Schools, clubs, companies and children's parties can book the hall outside opening hours, and company groups can have a coach.
Bouldering courses run from beginner to advanced level, alongside one-to-one coaching, children's courses from age 3 and a competition squad for children and teenagers. Top-rope courses take place on roped walls elsewhere: the Ossarn leisure centre for children from 6 and the Sportzentrum Niederösterreich in St. Pölten for adults. Courses are for Naturfreunde members, but anyone can come to a one-off taster session.
