Ampflwang im Hausruckwald, Upper Austria, Austria
The Gruabn is a public bouldering hall in the old indoor swimming pool of the Volksschule (primary school) in Ampflwang im Hausruckwald. The municipality converted the pool with the local Naturfreunde group, and it opened to the public in December 2014. It has about 218 m² of bouldering walls around the floor of the old pool, and schools use it for PE lessons as well as the public. The entrance is on the school's lower floor, reached from Dr.-Semmelweis-Straße.
Entry is by an electronic chip. Before your first visit, register once at the municipal office (Marktgemeindeamt) and bring a photo; entry tickets and chips are then issued there and at the Pizzeria Marine di Massa on Hausruckstraße, against a deposit. Children under 14 must come with an adult, and 14- to 17-year-olds need a parental consent form to boulder on their own. Climb only in climbing shoes or clean indoor trainers, never barefoot or in socks. The hall can be partly or fully closed for courses, competition training or events, which are posted at the entrance and on the municipality's website. The Naturfreunde run regular courses and family climbing sessions here, and rental equipment is available.
