The Naturfreunde Axams group has run this club hall in the Ruifach stadium at the Axams leisure centre (Freizeitzentrum Axams) since October 2002. On a floor of just 90 m² it fits about 200 m² of climbing surface and around 1,700 holds, with a slab, vertical walls, steep overhangs and a roof. It was the first dust-free climbing hall in Tyrol: only liquid chalk is allowed.
From October to the end of May anyone can come to the public sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings without booking and pay at the door, with a lower rate for Naturfreunde members. Friday afternoons are set aside for parents climbing with their children. The hall closes from June to September, when the club climbs outdoors.
On weekday afternoons the club runs climbing courses and technique training for children and young people, and there's an adult course on Wednesday evenings. Courses are for Naturfreunde members, and registration opens on the club's website around the second week of September. The season ends with the Kraxelcup, a competition for the children on the courses. On Saturdays the hall hosts children's birthday parties, and schools, kindergartens and therapy groups can hire it for two-hour sessions.
As we last found them. Prices change, so check the wall's website before you go.
