Badlands Training Centre is a locally owned fitness centre on Gehring Road in south-east Medicine Hat, open since 2020. Alongside strength training, boxing, spin, yoga and Pilates classes, it has a 40 ft (12 m) climbing wall with 2,100 sq ft of climbing surface, 11 lines and eight routes of varying difficulty. The routes are changed regularly, and the wall has auto-belays, so you can climb without a partner.
No experience is needed: new climbers are shown how everything works before they start, and the schedule mixes open climbing with sessions supervised by staff.
The weekly schedule includes a Climbing Club for ages 7 to 12, supervised climbing for ages 6 to 12 and an Adult Rock Climbing Basics class. The wall can be booked for birthday parties and group gatherings, although there's no space to eat or drink, and the centre offers child minding during workouts.
