Richmond, British Columbia, Canada
Approach Climbing is a boutique bouldering gym on Bridgeport Road in Richmond, close to Vancouver and Surrey, which opened in 2025. It has 3,000 sq ft of bouldering walls up to 15 feet high, with a mix of slab, vertical and overhanging terrain, including what the gym calls the largest cave in BC. Climbs are logged on the Kaya app, where climbers can track their sends and share beta, and a section is reset every Monday and Wednesday between 08:00 and 15:00, when part of the bouldering area is closed.
For training there's an adjustable Kilter Board, a tiered, campusable hangboard station with boards from Beastmaker, Tension, Solution, Eva López and Rock Prodigy, a campus board, and a fitness room with a Rogue power rack and Olympic plates. The desk sells bars, drinks, chalk, skin care and Approach merchandise, and rents shoes and chalk.
There's plenty of free parking, and the 430 bus between Brighouse Station and Metrotown stops outside. No booking is needed, and payment is by card only.

“…Fun, challenging routes with fairly accurate grading… Price is a bit higher than id like per month (coming from base5) to be completely honest, the workout/warmup room is missing some basics…”
“…The setters created interesting climbs even at the V0 level. The building has bathrooms and showers (byo towel) and a workout area past the bathroom area. Lots of cubbies to store your bags…”
“Went with my friends around 4pm in the afternoon and it wasn’t too busy!… It died down significantly around 6pm and it was a great environment to work on any projects you may have…”
