Bath has no full climbing centre of its own. LUMA Climbing, a small unstaffed board gym in a railway arch near Bath Spa station, is for climbers who already boulder V3 or harder. For general climbing, the nearest walls are a short drive out: Dragonfly Leisure's auto-belay wall at Writhlington in Radstock, Corsham Climbing Wall and Frome Boulder Rooms. Bristol's big centres start about 17 km west.

LUMA Climbing opened in spring 2025 on Ferry Lane, five minutes' walk from the station, and bills itself as the UK's first fully automated commercial climbing facility: there are no staff, and you get in with the QR code from your booking. The centrepiece is an adjustable Tension Board 2, with more than 20,000 problems in its app, shared by up to six climbers a session, plus hangboards and weights for warming up. You need to climb V3 or harder, have climbed at least five times and be 16 or over. It's open from 06:00 to 23:00.
Dragonfly Leisure Writhlington, on Knobsbury Lane in Radstock, has 12 auto-belay lines from beginner to advanced, so you don't need a partner or belay skills, and an instructor gives you an induction on your first visit. It runs as evening sessions from Tuesday to Friday, with Sunday mornings expected from November 2026; booking is recommended. Children from 5 can climb with an adult.
Corsham Climbing Wall, in Springfield Community Campus, is a 7.3-metre wall with eight top-rope lines from 3+ to 7a+. JSOI Adventures runs it as booked sessions six days a week, including two-hour sessions for competent adults, beginners' courses, kids' groups from age 6 and a monthly Ladies Night. Booking is essential.
Frome Boulder Rooms, in The Cotton Works on Vallis Road, is an independent bouldering centre with over 150 problems across five sectors, a woodie and circuit board, and a kids' area with shorter walls. New climbers can take the free one-hour Induction Plus+, and on BOGOFF Mondays a second adult gets in free. Its Winter League runs three week-long rounds of 25 boulders every autumn.
Just beyond this page's reach, The Arc in Chippenham has roped walls up to 15 metres, auto belays and two bouldering rooms. For Bristol's walls, see climbing in Bristol.
In October 2026 a one-hour session at LUMA cost £9.50 and unlimited monthly sessions £48. Writhlington charged £9.50 a session with harness included (£6.50 for juniors and concessions), Corsham £12 for a two-hour competent adult session, and Frome Boulder Rooms £14 a day (£11.50 off-peak) or £57.50 a month.
The nearest crags are around Bristol: the Avon Gorge below the Clifton Suspension Bridge has hundreds of limestone trad routes, with part of the Main Wall closed from 1 March to 15 July for nesting peregrines. Cheddar Gorge in the Mendips has longer limestone routes; climbing on its south side depends on an agreement with the landowner and seasonal restrictions, so check the BMC access database before you go.
